Human Resource Development

Economic Spectrum Unlimited has worked with 27 businesses to improve and build their Human Resource capacity and efficiency. ESU understands that your staff and volunteers are vital to what you do and can make or break your business or organization.

ESU has worked with business managers, owners and staff to understand the culture of the business or organization and has consulted on and delivered HR Development techniques to groups of businesses, to help address issues and concerns identified. ESU has carried out private interviews with owners, managers and staff of businesses to come up with a plan for addressing issues to improve the culture in the workplace. ESU has developed and delivered an 8- week course on the topic of Organizational Behaviour for South Shore Opportunities through the Nova Scotia Community College, has developed and delivered a 15-week Customer Service program for Human Resources Development Canada (now Service Canada) and has developed and delivered a team building program for staff of the Native Council of Nova Scotia.

ESU has delivered a “Working in Teams” module to staff of an aerospace company, through the Nova Scotia Community College, which was part of an eight-module training program. ESU developed and delivered Human Resource training on the topic of the five generations in the workplace, how to work alongside each and how to manage and get the most out of each:

    • iGen, aka Generation Z: born 1996 and after.
    • Millennials, aka Generation Y: born 1977 to 1995.
    • Generation X: born 1965 to 1976.
    • Baby Boomers: born 1946 to 1964.
    • Traditionalists: born 1945 and before.

During her 14 years with the non-profit, Bridgewater Development Association (BDA), Ida became a magnet for attracting volunteers. At one point, there were 110 volunteers working on BDA projects. The Board of Directors was made up of 13 volunteers, who were business owners and managers that were successful in their own field of work.  Through the BDA, Ida established a number of Action Teams and attracted volunteers to those teams from Youth Action Team to Waterfront Development. People would ask to become a board member or a volunteer on an Action Team. Attracting and developing volunteers to use their skills for an organization became a signature hallmark for the BDA through Ida’s efforts
